There were the roses, in the rain.

Don't cut them, I pleaded.

                    They won't last, she said.

But they're so beautiful

                    where they are.

Agh, we were all beautiful once, she

                     said,

and cut them and gave them to me

                    in my hand.

장미가 있었다, 빗속에.

꺾지 말아요, 나는 애원했다.

            오래가지 못할 거에요, 그녀는 말했다.

그러나 지금 있는 자리에서

            너무나 아름답잖아.

에그, 우리도 모두 한때 아름다웠어요, 그녀는

            말했다,

그리고 장미를 꺾어 내게

            내 손에 쥐어줬다.
