The Mind Hesitant (1948)

Sometimes the river
becomes a river in the mind
or of the mind
or in and of the mind

 

Its banks snow
the tide falling a dark
rim lies between
the water and the shore

 

And the mind hesitant
regarding the stream
senses
a likeness which it

 

will find–-a complex
image: something
of white brows
bound by a ribbon

 

of sooty thought
beyond, yes well beyond
the mobile features
swiftly

 

flowing waters, before
the tide will
change
and rise again, maybe

가끔씩 강은

마음 속

혹은 마음의

혹은 마음 안팎의 강이 된다

 

강기슭이

내려앉는 물살을 덮고

어두운 언저리가

강물과 강변 사이에 눕는다

 

그리고 망설이는 마음은

물결에 대하여

알아차린다

닮은 점을

 

찾아낼 것이다--복잡한

이미지와: 리본으로

묶어 놓은 흰 눈썹

같은 것 사이의

 

숯 검댕이 같은 생각을

넘어선, 그렇다 변덕스런 용모를

훨씬 넘어서서

재빠르게

 

흘러가는 물이, 물살이

다시

변해서

차오르기 전에, 아마도
