The Young Cat and the Chrysanthemums (1936)

You mince, you start

advancing indirectly---

your tail upright

knocking about among the

frail, heavily flowered

sprays.

 

Yes, you are lovely

with your ingratiating

manners, sleek sides and

small white paws but

I wish you had not come

here.

너는 종종걸음이다가,  넌지시

앞으로 가기 시작하는구나 --

너의 높게 곧추선 꼬리가

깨지기 쉬운, 꽃으로 흠뻑 덮인

분무기를 이리저리

때리면서

 

그래, 너의 알랑거리는

태도며, 맵시 좋은 옆구리며

조그맣게 흰 발이

사랑스럽지만 네가

여기에 오지 말 걸

그랬다.
