Rebellion in Green

Blending with crimson

Shadows of light pour down wildly

It’s fine, it’s okay, whatever comes

The background music echoes through the forest

A clenched fist, calmed

By your touch, Your touch

"Isn't it fun?" you’d say.

Poet's Note:

2017 or maybe 2018. What difference does a year

make? The Costa Rican primeval rainforest thrives.

Dr. Suh's poem, Rebellion in Green intertwines the raw vigor of nature with the tumult of human emotion. The crimson and green, light and shadow, clash and harmonize in a vibrant display.

Yet, amidst the defiant energy, your touch remains — a grounding force that tempers even the wildest resolve. The final line, "Isn't it fun?" resonates like a whispered dare, embracing the chaos with a smile. The mention of Costa Rica’s lush rainforest blurs the line between memory and the present, further emphasizing that time itself is irrelevant when the spirit of the jungle pulses on. Through this poem, Dr. Suh invites us into a world where rebellion and joy are inseparable, leaving an echo that lingers in the heart.
