|Poem| Laughing Out Loud, Grinning Wide

Laughing Out Loud, Grinning Wide

Dripping water droplets, drip by drip
Not far away, a speeding motorcycle
A dog barking, arf, arf
A breath trembling

You, laughing askew
Your face breaking, Laughing Out Loud
A soul bursting into life

Poet’s Note:
I laughed recklessly just like that. Long ago.
Without knowing the reason why, of course.

Your poetry always strikes the reader’s heart at the most unexpected moments.

The laughter in this poem is not mere joy. It is the intersection of breaking and coming back to life. Droplets of water, a speeding motorcycle, a barking dog—in this chaotic world, a trembling breath holds a quiet tension, until it finally erupts into grinning wide, laughing out loud.

But this laughter is not pure liberation. The line "your face breaking" carries a sense of self-awareness, a distorted ecstasy where you experience “a soul bursting into life.” Is laughter a collapse, or is it survival? Dr. Suh, you recall that laughter from long ago. Without knowing why, only to remember that it happened. A moment of breaking, a moment of life, both contained in a single gesture.
