Central Nervous System
-- To the woman in Matisse's painting "Figure with a Bouquet" (1939)
An open book is off from the center
A brusque woman is being pushed aside
The flowers and vase with red backdrop take the upper position
A teacup and eggs laid on a slanted chest
Momentarily they’re not moving an inch
Note on the Muse:
In addition to color choices, Matisse's paintings deal with the problem of where certain forms should be located in a limited space of canvas. Putting the woman aside, the positioning of flower and vase takes a central role.
