People Showing Up in Dreams

 

At first glance, they were strangers, but their faces were familiar. It was a side profile, not a frontal view. In the darkness, I sensed they wanted to say something to me. They didn't really have to reveal their innermost thoughts. It would have been better if they hadn't even approached me. Don't be sorry too much. The more uneasy I felt, the more characters came pouring onto the stage, one after another. As the clouds rushed by from left to right at a frightening speed, a booming male chorus echoed. The melody was stunningly beautiful. It would have been more tantalizing if you had said it was what you wanted, not what I wanted. I had no real interest in the progression of the music because I had a hunch that it would follow the sonata form. It doesn't make sense. Even if it's like that, it still doesn't. Aren't you curious about who is dreaming your dream? In the dim lighting of the audience seats, people were murmuring.

꿈에 나오는 사람들

 

얼핏 처음 보는 사람이지만 분명 낯 익은 얼굴이다. 정면이 아닌 옆 얼굴 모습이었습니다. 어둠 속에서 내게 무슨 말을 하고 싶은 눈치였어요. 굳이 심중을 밝히지 않아도 좋으련만. 이상해 딱히 내게 접근하지 않아도 좋았을망정. 너무 섭섭하게 생각하지 마세요. 마음이 편치 않으면 않을 수록 많은 등장인물들이 꾸역꾸역 무대로 쏟아져 나왔다. 구름이 왼쪽에서 오른쪽으로 무서운 속도로 스쳐가는 동안 우렁찬 남성합창이 울렸던 거야. 멜로디가 까무러치게 아름다웠어요. 내가 원해서가 아니라 당신이 원해서였다고 하면 더 더욱 애절해. 소나타 형식을 따를 것이라는 예감 때문에 정작 저 자신은 곡의 진행에 큰 관심이 없었습니다. 말도 안 돼. 아무리 그래도 그렇지. 너는 꿈을 꾸는 자가 누군지 궁금하지 않으냐. 조명이 어두운 객석에서 사람들이 웅성거렸다.
