Intermission
-- To “Assistant Ballerina” painted by Matisse (1942)
On the dark blue wall, broad-leaved tree leaves, leaves
White horseshoe magnet hanging from the neck
Women's long arms, pectoral fins
Mermaid in the sea, mermaid
The right brain hemisphere ringing sonorously
Riding the upward curve and playing whitely
Resting momentarily in between
Note on the Muse:
There are times when the women Matisse draws look like fish.
Whenever that happens, my right cerebral hemisphere goes on an upward curve.
