Without Space
-- To Matisse's painting, "Woman with Folded Arms" (1944)
Curves, mountain ridges, curves
Eyes without pupils pure white eyes
The moment of holding one’s own torso with both arms
In the sky on the shore, the dazzling sky
Seagulls, seagulls peeking around
Lips of the woman almost reachable, not reachable
Note on Muse:
Matisse's curves are reverential, even religious. They resemble architectural structures composed solely of curves. The body of the woman he paints is a temple. A Buddhistic temple.
