Anemone Accordion
-- To the painting "Woman with Anemones" by Matisse (1937)
A book spread on the knees
Between the white keys of the accordion
The resounding sound of the black keys, bunga bunga
A hunk of dense pink flowers
An anemone safely landing on the woman's left forehead
Her left eye wide open, right side half-closed, half-closed
The world is unfolding in red stripes, bunga bunga
Note on Muse:
I've developed a habit of savoring Matisse's paintings with half-closed eyes. In this painting, the woman's left eye is partly closed while anemones rest upon her left forehead. The world must be in a state of half-open and half-closed.
