Diagonal
-- To the painting "Woman Sitting in a Chair" by Matisse (1926)
Take a look at that skewed posture
A tight grid pattern
A trap hidden within the armchair of mugwort color
A woman with her knees concealed by dark blue clouds
Her right side bare foot
Touching the floor of brick color
A slim face awaiting the *Apocalypse
*The end of the world described in the Book of Revelation
Note on Muse:
Among the women captured by Matisse on canvas, there are many with unconcerned countenances. I often think that the word "woman" feels closer to me than the political expression of "female." The woman in this painting has a face that would not be bothered even if the end of the world comes.
