Tired of Staying Here

 

Curled up in a fetal position

Surrounded by the Psychiatric Institute's cozy walls

Adam's soul is tightly bound

Time crawls by with no sights to hold

Memories of the future are all he's found

 

Adam yearns for a sun-kissed pasture green

All-season dreams without a dreamer

All-in thoughts without a thinker

With no will to run away nor smile

During the deathly silence of the group therapy

Adam breaks loose from his pained future

 

Note on Muse:

About 20% of this poem was contributed by Artificial Intelligence, AI. I asked it to write a poem on ‘Adam’ as a protagonist with the theme of mental institute. Within 2,3 seconds, it pours out sentences that can pop out of the Hallmark Cards. AI was verbose. I decisively shortened the length to 30% and converted the delicate, too delicate emotion to a rough-hewn one to produce a poem like this to my bewilderment.

여기 있기가 고단해

 

태아처럼 꼬부린 자세로

아늑한 정신병원 벽에 둘러싸인 채

아담의 영혼이 단단히 묶여 있다네

시간은 볼거리도 없이 천천히 기어가는데

그가 깨달은 모든 것은 미래의 기억 뿐

 

아담은 햇살 바른 푸른 풀밭을 그리워하네

꿈꾸는 사람 없이 올 시즌으로 꾸는 꿈

생각하는 사람 없이 올 인으로 하는 생각

도망치거나 미소 지을 의지조차 없이

죽음처럼 고요한 그룹 테러피를 받는 동안

아담은 고뇌에 찬 미래에서 풀려난다네

 

시작 노트:
이 시는 인공지능, 'AI'가 공헌한 부분이 20% 정도 된다. ‘아담’이라는 주인공 이름에 정신병원을 주제로 해서 시를 한편 써보라 했지. 2,3초 만에 'Hallmark Cards’에 나올 것 같은 문장이 우르르 쏟아져 나온다. 'AI'는 말이 많다. 길이를 30%로 콱 줄이고 여리디 여린 감성을 많이 투박하게 고치니까 얼떨결에 이런 시가 되네.
