Red Turtle
-- To the woman in “Red Interior, Still Life on Blue Table” painted by Matisse (1947)
Head upward both arms forward
Delicate plant is stuck in the vase
Full moon floating indoors
Woman in the moon smiles gently
Around the red wall and the blue table
Turtle’s back is being cracked, crackling, crackling
Note on the Muse:
Matisse was soft but chic using intense colors, and
called Fauvism. I am giving him a turtle as a present.
