Fingerless
-- To Matisse's painting, "Woman with a Scarf" (1936)
The left arm is a bar rice cake, a plump, plump bar rice cake
A red-striped scarf, a zebra-like pattern
The waves surge, palpitation, palpitation
As if to smile, the woman is not smiling
The light blue and yellow background is
American-style paper windows, completely American style
Note on the Muse:
Was Matisse pursuing softness? The softness of the bar rice cake arm. This woman has roughly three or maybe even no fingers on her left hand. Her facial expression shows no concern for such matters.
