Red Space

-- To “Woman in Blue at a Table, Red Background” painted by Matisse (1923)

 

Flower, long flower vase, long dress
Blue belt, dark purple necklace
Floating in the air, Table Booklet Booklet Woman
One eye is wide open, the other’s angular
Sharp shoes pressing against the red bottom
Dropping on the deep black shoe tips, petals, white petals

 

Note on the Muse:

Matisse's paintings are more focused on the background than the foreground. It is the background

that holds the atmosphere of the painting tightly. That's how it is when writing a poem. Thoughts farther

than close thoughts catch and shake poetry. Anyway, the woman in this painting is so attractive.
