The Unconscious

-- To the woman in “Dancer in Repose” painted by Matisse (1940)

The wall covered by the leaves

Before the charcoal canvas

A red-haired woman's face is only utterly dashing

By the black bottom trying to follow geometric principles

The isosceles triangular legs are very fair-and-square, ain’t they?

Note on the Muse:

Looking at the woman's face in Matisse's painting, although

rare, there’s a very dashing and fair-and-square countenance.
